Kurtis Shook currently serves as director, Health Care Reform Exchanges, for United Concordia Dental. In this role, Kurt’s focus is on the development of exchanges around the country, especially in the states where United Concordia Dental will offer products to individuals and small groups. His primary responsibility is leading development of and advocating for United Concordia Dental’s public policy vision for health insurance exchanges.
Prior to this role, Kurt was a Health Care Reform leader for Highmark Inc., during which he consulted senior executives of Highmark’s diversified businesses (Davis Vision, HM Insurance Group and United Concordia) in the development of their health care reform strategies. He also directed macro work efforts and monitored projects that resulted from reform.
Before joining Highmark’s Office of Health Care Reform, Kurt was director of United Concordia’s Department of Market Research and Intelligence. His responsibilities included directing market research studies of members, dentists, employers and internal staff, as well as positioning United Concordia to meet new revenue growth goals through the pre-sale (RFP) process. He also oversaw the development and maintenance of a nationwide online quote application.
Kurt has also served as United Concordia’s Director, Marketing Communications, and previously as eCommerce project director where he was responsible for enhancing the company’s competitive position by defining, re-engineering and delivering web-enabled platforms including: eQuote, eProducer Appointment, and enhancements to the Group Automated Delinquency Collections and Cancellation and billing systems. He also directed vendors, contractors and employees assigned to the initiative.
Kurt received a bachelor’s degree in marketing
from Messiah College. He also earned his master’s of business
administration from Lebanon Valley College. He and his wife have two
daughters and an energetic golden retriever.
