Dear Day on the Hill Attendee:
On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Pennsylvania Dental Association (PDA), I thank you for your participation in Day on the Hill at the Capitol on June 4.
You’ll find on the website all the information you will need for Day on the Hill, including directions to the Radisson Hotel, the schedule, your team assignments, background information and talking points on PDA’s issues. Check back frequently—some of this information will be posted closer to the date of the event. Please note that we will not send this information to you in the mail.
Please plan to attend PDA’s rally on the steps
of the main Rotunda, from 10-10:20 a.m. We will take this
opportunity to promote PDA and our advocacy goals for the 2013/14
session. The media is invited to attend and learn more about these
issues. We also will reinforce our commitment to access issues with
those legislators and staffers walking by. We have scheduled this rally
to take place before your legislative visits. We need all of you to be
PDA will assign you to a team of three or four members, spouses and dental students. Your team is responsible for visiting a number of legislators who are members of key committees, as well as legislators in leadership positions. PDA will target committee members handling professional licensure, insurance and health issues, and leaders who determine if and when a vote will take place on our issues. All appointments will take place between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. PDA’s staff and lobbyists schedule these meetings for you; however, due to legislators’ last-minute requests to change appointments, you will receive your team’s legislative assignments via email the day before this event. It also will be posted on the website.
PDA will do its best to schedule your team to visit with your own Representative and Senator. If not, you are free to break away from your team at any time to meet with your own legislators and then rejoin the team when you are able.
I strongly encourage you to attend the legislative briefing at the Radisson Hotel, which begins at 8:50 a.m., to meet with your team and hear from our lobbyists. If you plan to travel directly to the Capitol, please meet with your team at your first scheduled legislative visit.
PDA will focus on several legislative initiatives this year. Background information and talking points are posted on the website to aid you in your discussions with legislators and staff. These issues fall under the umbrella of improving access to care for Pennsylvanians. Our other message is that important insurance reforms will attract and retain dentists to practice in Pennsylvania. PDA’s lobbyists will provide a full update on these issues before leaving for the Capitol.
This event is the culmination of a year of hard work by our dentists, spouses and dental students to increase organized dentistry’s role in the political process and to improve access to dental care in Pennsylvania. I am grateful that your participation in this event affords organized dentistry the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with Pennsylvania lawmakers.
I look forward to seeing you on June 4!
