2010 PDA Day on the
HillOn June 8, more than 85 dentists, spouses and dental
students converged on the state Capitol to advocate for issues that
impact the dental profession. Members, spouses and students spoke
with Pennsylvania’s representatives and senators about the issues
affecting them as small business owners,
including: Prohibiting Insurers from Capping
Reimbursement Rates for Non-Covered
Services. Limiting Retroactive Insurance Claim
Denials. Assignment of Benefits
Legislation. More Insurance Coverage for
Dental-Related
Procedures. Expansion
of Scope of Practice for EFDAs and CDAs. More Funding
in the Loan Forgiveness Program.
Due to PDA's lobbying
efforts, the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee scheduled a public
hearing that same day to vote on SB 1222, which would prohibit insurers
from capping non-covered services. The dental community was there to
talk to lawmakers firsthand about the need to pass this legislation.
Thanks to their hard work and advocacy for the entire profession, SB
1222 unanimously passed the committee! More work needs done, so
please stay tuned for further updates and calls to action as the bill
moves through the Senate.
