Initially, CHIP was designed to provide dental coverage for children from low income families who did not qualify for MA but had no means of affording health care coverage. There are federal mandates that are specifically designed to ensure comprehensive dental coverage for these children. However, the Department of Insurance (DOI) has, as of January 1, 2011, proposed changes in the CHIP coverage which may appear to be inconsistent with federal mandates. Each CHIP plan is responding differently to what DOI proposed. You must check carefully with each CHIP program to determine the services that are covered. Learn more about CHIP coverage.
All of the CHIP programs use standard ADA forms to file claims. Carefully review each CHIP contract you are required to sign. Like all private insurance companies, avoid billing errors or misinterpretations of contract requirements as these can carry significant penalties.Learn more about CHIP.
