The negotiation process works like this: the MCOs must recruit a reasonable number of dental providers within a given area to provide a dental network that can adequately cover the population it serves. This is monitored by DPW. In general, the rules of supply and demand come into play. The higher the number of participating dentists in a given MCO plan, the less likely the MCO is to negotiate higher fees. The opposite also is true. If the MCOs need your help to satisfy their requirements for an appropriate “dental network,” they will hopefully negotiate a contract with you that you can accept.
