Nitrous Oxide in Dentistry; Dental Manifestations of Metabolic Bone Disorders and Pulp Therapy in Primary and Permanent Teeth

This multidisciplinary lecture will provide the attendee with the fundamentals and best practice methods for the use of nitrous in dentistry; increase awareness of genetic and metabolic bone disorders, such as X-linked hypophosphatemia and offer a comprehensive overview of pulp therapy procedures in both primary and permanent dentition.
Attendees can expect to be able to:
— Understand the pharmacology basis of nitrous oxide.
— Learn the indications and contra-indications for the use of nitrous oxide.
— Discuss practical tips for successful use of nitrous oxide in dentistry.
— Learn more about XLH and recognize the dental manifestations of XLH.
— Assess and diagnose XLH.
— Differentiate between pulp conditions and formulate appropriate diagnoses.
— Select and justify suitable pulp therapy procedures based on clinical findings, patient age and evidence-based guidelines.
— Demonstrate understanding of current materials and techniques used in vital and non-vital pulp therapy.
— Evaluate outcomes and complications associated with pulp therapy and propose strategies for prevention and management.
Presented by Juan F. Yepes, DDS, MD, MPH, MS, DrPH, the Paul E. Starkey Endowed Professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and the associate dean for graduate education at Indiana University School of Dentistry. He also is an attending at Riley Children Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Yepes is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry; the American Board of Oral Medicine and the American Board of Dental Public Health.
