This course provides an overview of the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard and infection control in the dental office\, focusing on compliance with OSHA standards and CDC guidelines. Participants will gain an understanding of the risks associated with bloodborne diseases\, modes of transmission\, preventive measures\, and response protocols in case of exposure incidents. Additionally\, the course covers hazard communication requirements\, including the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS)\, to ensure safety in handling chemicals in the workplace.  Finally\, along with these OSHA-related topics\, this course also covers the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the requirements that dental offices have under that Act. \n \nLearning Objectives:\n \n\nRecognize tasks and activities that may involve exposure to blood and OPIMs.\nExplain the OSHA General Duty Clause and its implications for workplace safety.\nDetail methods to prevent or reduce exposure\, including engineering controls\, work practices\, and personal protective equipment (PPE).\nDescribe requirements for decontamination\, sterilization\, and spore testing.\nIdentify GHS pictograms and GHS labeling requirements.\nExplain the responsibilities of Covered Entities under HIPAA\, including the Privacy Rule and the Security Rule.\n\n\n\n#2\nCourse Title: “Radiation Safety Overview for Dental X-ray Operators\nContinuing Education Credit Hours: 2\nCourse Description: Every dental X-ray operator in Pennsylvania needs a periodic refresher course on ionizing radiation\, including the definition\, sources\, hazards\, measurements\, and biological effects.  This course will cover those topics as well as address recent scientific studies that are affecting our understanding of exposure and shielding in the dental office.  This course meets the training requirements detailed in Pennsylvania Code\, Title 25\, Section 221.11. \n \nLearning Objectives:\n \n\nDetail the basic properties of radiation\nDefine the units of measurement for radiation\nIdentify sources of radiation exposure\nDiscuss radiation protection measures\nProvide an overview of the biological effects of radiation exposure\nDiscuss types of X-ray equipment\nReview image recording and processing as well as patient exposures and positioning\nOutline operational procedural requirements\n Review guidelines for QA program\nSummarize regulations for X-ray Operators \n\n#3\nCourse Title: “Recognizing and Reporting Suspected Child Abuse in Pennsylvania”\nContinuing Education Credit Hours: 2\n\n \nCourse Description: In the state of Pennsylvania\, all “individuals licensed or certified to practice in any health-related field under the jurisdiction of the Department of State” are Mandated Reporters of Child Abuse\, along with any of their employees who have direct contact with children.  This course will educate Mandated Reporters on how to recognize the signs of child abuse and how and when to make a report.  Taking this course fulfills the 2 hours of Act 31 Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter Training required for license renewal. \n \nLearning Objectives: \n\nUnderstand what constitutes Child Abuse\nDistinguish between Mandated and Permissive Reporters\nGrasp the responsibilities of reporters\nKnow how to make a report of suspected abuse\nIdentify who the investigators are and what conclusions may be made\nRecognize exclusions to child abuse\nComprehend protection for reporters and failure to report\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker Bio: Autumn Bupp\n\n\nAutumn Bupp is the Manager of the Western Pennsylvania branch of Clym Environmental Services\, where she oversees the areas of compliance\, medical waste management\, and confidential document destruction. Autumn plays an integral role in compliance as she provides compliance training\, safety audits\, and compliance consultation services to offices throughout Pennsylvania. She strives to relieve dentists and doctors of the burden of compliance management so that they are freed up to spend more time focusing on their patients. Autumn is a graduate of Grove City College and the former director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Pittsburgh.
