Dr. Jim Boyle, ADA Trustee
The Latest from the ADA Board of Trustees
February 2024
The ADA Board of Trustees met early this month in Chicago. The agenda included a very productive session with the New Dentist Committee. Of note, our very own Dr. Kayla Klingensmith was elected by her committee as the new Chair-elect! Her term will begin at the conclusion of this fall’s House of Delegates.
The BOT also hosted six dental school deans for a very productive discussion regarding tuition issues and curriculums. As a result, we approved a Task Force on Lowering Dental School Tuition. Dr. Linda Edgar will appoint a chair to lead the task force that will include one ADA trustee and up to a total of nine members. A report is due back to the BOT in August.
ADA staff was directed to explore the potential for changing the frequency of the ADA Annual Meeting/SmileCon as well as the timing of House of Delegates meetings. As part of the reorganization of the Annual Sessions Committee, staff will be using consultants in large group meetings. ADA member volunteers will be part of the CE Committee of the Annual Sessions Committee.
The BOT approved a request from CMS on ADA providing fee schedule / payment services for dental services associated with covered medical procedures based on policy adopted at the 2023 HOD.
The Council on Dental Benefit Programs has been asked to review the ADA policy on Medical Loss Ratio while receiving input from the Council on Government Affairs (CGA) and provide revision to the 2024 HOD.
Finally, as part of efforts to increase non-dues revenue, the board approved a $1,000,000 expenditure to the Innovation Advisory Committee to fund an initial closing investment.
