SUMMARY:Local Anesthetics and Act 31 Child Abuse Recognition\, Report
DESCRIPTION:Local Anesthetics: Old Drugs\, New Drugs and Staying Out of Trouble PLUS Act 31: Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting \n6 CE credits appropriate for dentists\, hygienists\, assistants and EFDAs. Act 31 is a requirement for all PA dental license holders (dentists\, hygienists and EFDAs).\nEducation Method: powerpoint\, lecture and discussion \nChild Abuse Recognition and Reporting (Act 31) will be presented to fulfill the mandatory CE requirement for dentists\, hygienists and EFDAs but the lecture is appropriate for all dental team members.\nLocal anesthetics and their associated vasoconstrictors have had a long history of safety and efficacy in dental practice. However\, pediatric dental patients are especially vulnerable to overdose reactions with this group of drugs. The speaker will illustrate how to perform these dosage calculations including “The Rule of 25.” A potentially serious drug interaction between epinephrine containing local anesthetic solutions and non-selective beta-adrenergic blocking agents also will be highlighted. Research evaluating the efficacy and safety of phentolamine mesylate will be discussed along with the limitations of the intranasal tetracaine plus oxymetazoline mist.\nPresented by Elliot V. Hersh\, DMD\, MS\, PhD\, Professor of Pharmacology/Oral Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He has published more than 175 scientific articles\, abstracts and book chapters in the areas of dental pharmacology\, drug interactions\, analgesics and local anesthetics. Dr. Hersh has no relevant financial relationships to disclose. \nAt the end of the course\, participants will be able to:\n– calculate maximum recommended doses of local anesthetics based on patient body weight.\n– discuss the mechanism of action of phentolamine mesylate.\n– recognize signs of abuse.\n– understand the legal responsibilities of mandated reporters.\n– Know when\, how and where to report suspected abuse and what happens after a report is made. \n\n\n\n Date: \n Wednesday\, December 17\, 2025\n\n\n Time:\n9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.\nRegistration opens at 8:30 a.m.\n\n\n Location: \nGeisinger Medical Center\, Henry Hood Center\nSnacks provided; meals are on your own\n\n\n Fees: \n$145 – PDA/ADA member dentists\n$0 – PDA Retired/Life member dentists\n$245 – Non-member dentists\n$85 – Non-dentist dental team\n\n\n CE Credits: \n 6 CE credits for dentists\, hygienists\, assistants and EFDAs\n\n\n\nOnline registration is available to PDA member dentists and non-dentist dental team members. ADA members residing outside PA\, non-member dentists and dental team members attending without a dentist will need a username and password so contact PDA before you register. Call (717) 234-5941\, ext. 117 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. After hours or holidays email rvn@padental.org.\nAll PDA member dentists have a username and password for PDA’s website. For many dentists\, your username will be your first initial\, last name and 4 digit year of birth with no spaces or punctuation. The default password is lowercase letters ada followed by your ADA membership number (no spaces or punctuation). Contact PDA via phone or email rvn@padental.org if you need assistance to register.

SUMMARY:A New Era in Conservative Esthetic Dentistry
DESCRIPTION:A New Era in Conservative Esthetic Dentistry \n6 CE credits appropriate for dentists\, assistants and EFDAs\nEducation Method: powerpoint\, lecture and discussion \nThis course will examine how technology has made it possible for clinicians to turn any prepped veneer case into a no-prep case\, making our treatment much more conservative and more acceptable to the patient. A new approach to new patient exams with the use of a digital scanner and an included oral health software suite will also be shown to see how it can increase patient understanding and acceptance to necessary treatment.\nPresented by Michael DiTolla\, DDS\, FAGD\, who served as the Director of Clinical Education for Glidewell Labs for 15 years before going back to a private practice focused on clear aligners\, veneers and obstructive sleep apnea in Lodi\, California. Dr. DiTolla has no relevant financial relationships to disclose. \nAt the end of the course\, participants can expect to have a greater understanding of:\n– the rationale for turning prepped veneer cases into no-prep cases.\n– the software necessary to plan and execute an esthetic no-prep veneer case.\n– how to stop inadvertently under-reducing preparations which leads to bulky\, unesthetic crowns.\n– a new way to adjust permanent crowns prior to final cementation. \n\n\n\n Date: \n Wednesday\, November 5\, 2025\n\n\n Time:\n\n9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.\nRegistation opens at 8:30 a.m.\n\n\n Location: \n\nGeisinger Medical Center\, Henry Hood Center\nSnacks provided; meals are on your own\n\n\n Fees: \n\n$145 – PDA/ADA member dentists\n$0 – PDA Retired/Life member dentists\n$245 – Non-member dentists\n$85 – Non-dentist dental team\n\n\n CE Credits: \n 6 CE credits for dentists\, hygienists\, assistants and EFDAs\n\n\n\nOnline registration is available to PDA member dentists and non-dentist dental team members. ADA members residing outside PA\, non-member dentists and dental team members attending without a dentist will need a username and password so contact PDA before you register.
