Attendees will gain knowledge of the ever-evolving landscape of over the counter (OTC) dental solutions. Many patients use dietary supplements as a replacement for properly balanced diets and dental professionals need to understand the effects supplements have on the oral environment. By exploring the intersection of dietary choices and the latest advancements in oral care products\, participants will understand how to incorporate both nutritional advice and the effective use of OTC products into patient guidance.\nProducts used in dentistry and oral home care have a wide-ranging array of ingredients. The course also will explore how allergies and sensitivities factor into decision making for product choices in our practice and recommendations for patients.\nAttendees can expect to be able to:\n— Recognize the connection between nutritional factors and oral health conditions\, including symptoms of deficiencies and supplement excesses.\n— Understand various dietary supplements and oral probiotics\, their uses\, and the impact of “food fads” on oral health.\n— Discuss critical pH and guide patients on beverage choices.\n— Gain an understanding of medicinal herbals\, antioxidants\, vitamins\, dietary supplements and essential oils.\n— Evaluate positive and negative attributes of oral home care product ingredients.\n— Recognize risks associated with e-cigarette vapor ingredients\, stay informed on trends like Sodium Laurel Sulfate\, BPA and Triclosan.\n— Describe the science behind new and unique oral care products in the market.\n\n \nPresented by Linda Straub-Bruce\, DHA\, MHSA\, RDH\, FADHA\, operations and finance director for a dental practice in Erie\, PA. She recently earned her Master’s degree in Health Services Administration and her Doctor of Healthcare Administration from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is a part-time clinical faculty member at the LECOM Dental Outreach Clinic in Erie\, where she works with 4th year dental students to facilitate their achievement of clinical copetency in procedures within her scope of practice. DESCRIPTION:Register for this Event \n\nAct 31 Recognizing and Reporting Suspected Child Abuse in Pennsylvania and Medical Emergencies Encountered with Conscious Sedation and General Anesthesia\nSix CE credits recommended for the entire dental team. Act 31 is a PA license renewal requirement for dentists\, hygienists\, and EFDAs\nEducation Methods: lecture\, slides\, case presentations and discussion\n\nAct 31: This lecture will educate mandated reporters on how to recognize the signs of child abuse and how and when to make a report.\nPresented by Michelle Hager\, a dedicated Compliance Consultant with Clym Environmental Services specializing in dental practice safety\, regulatory compliance and operational excellence. Ms. Hager is employed by Clym Environmental Services and all relevant financial relationships have been mitigated.\n\nMedical Emergencies: Preparation for medical emergencies is extremely important and a team approach ensures that all members of the dental team are prepared to handle emergency situations effectively.\nPresented by R. John Brewer\, EMT-P\, a paramedic with more than 40 years of experience in an urban/suburban area south of Pittsburgh. He has worked extensively with the dental community as a dental anesthesia assistant in several offices in the Pittsburgh area. Mr. Brewer also provided recertification courses in BLS\, ACLS and PALS.
