Course will satisfy PA's Act 124 CE requirement for doctors with a DEA registration and attendees can expect to learn more about:
- Summarize the evidence regarding the safety and efficacy of NSAIDs vs. opioids in pain management following third molar extraction.
- Describe patient populations in which opioids would be preferred for treating post-surgical dental pain.
- Discuss some opioid-sparing strategies for pain management.
- Describe polypharmacy and how it can increase the risk of adverse drug events
- Discuss common mechanisms by which drug interactions occur
- Describe some important drug interactions for drugs commonly used in dentistry
- Discuss the concept of precision medicine and define pharmacogenetics/pharmacogenomics
- Explain how CYP2D6 genotype impacts safety and efficacy of codeine and tramadol
- Describe how CYP2C9 genotype can be used to guide NSAID dosing
