This course focuses on practical approaches to differential diagnoses, triage, and biopsy of the most commonly enountered infections, inflammatory conditions and neoplastic lesions. Attendees can expect to be able to:
-- Formulate a differential diagnosis of common hard and soft tissue pathologies.
-- Stratify risk potential of lesions and determine the best course of actions.
-- Review the most commonly prescribed medications for oral infections or inflammatory conditions.
-- Learn basic biopsy indications, armamentarium and technique.
-- Understand when and where to refer to definitive treatment if necessary.
Presented by Austin J. Shackelford, DMD, an associate in laboratory and clinical oral pathology at Geisinger Wilkes-Barre and Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Dr. Shackelford is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology who strives to make the specialty of oral pathology more accessible and practical for all dental professionals.
