Course Description
The mouth is the mirror to the body. In this address, explore the oral connection between oral and systemic health. Understand the importance of interdisciplinary approaches to patient care, and learn how to identify signs of common bodily conditions.

"Diagnostic Dilemma: Differential Diagnoses of the Oral Cavity"
 
Course Description
In this lecture, explore differential diagnoses of the oral cavity, ranging from soft tissue and pigmented lesions, chronic mucosal diseases, and common radiographic findings. Develop your own style for accurate history taking and physical examination skills, and formulating a differential diagnosis.

Learning Objectives
-Develop your own style in forming differential diagnoses
-Develop a streamlined technique for a head and neck examination 
-Review the most common diagnostic and management protocols for soft tissue pathology
Speaker Bio: 
Dr. Roopali Kulkarni is a board-certified oral medicine specialist. She is an Assistant Professor of Oral Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and serves as the Assistant Director of the postgraduate oral medicine residency program. She pursued both her Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) and Master of Public Health degrees (M.P.H.) and graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her postgraduate residency training in Oral Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She currently teaches predoctoral and postdoctoral students clinically and didactically. She was the 2022 and 2025 recipient of the Penn Dental Medicine Earle Bank Hoyt award for dedication and excellence in teaching and the 2025 recipient of the Martin S. Greenberg teaching award in oral medicine. Her scholarly activity focuses on research within oral medicine and public health. She is an active researcher in the World Workshop on Oral Medicine and at Penn Dental Medicine’s Center for Integrative Global Oral Health and is a Senior Fellow at the Penn Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics. In addition to her faculty responsibilities, she treats patients within the University of Pennsylvania Health System. Dr. Kulkarni is a Fellow in the Pierre Fauchard Academy, International College of Dentists, and American College of Dentists. Her professional involvement spans multiple organizations – she serves as a national media spokesperson and on the Council of Scientific Affairs for the American Dental Association, as President-Elect of the Philadelphia County Dental Society, and on multiple councils and committees in the Pennsylvania Dental Association, American Dental Education Association, and the American Academy of Oral Medicine. She is a 2024 recipient of the American Dental Association “10 Under 10” Award and the Pennsylvania Dental Association Recognition Award, celebrating her passion for dental education. She travels across the country providing educational lectures on topics in oral medicine, public health, and leadership development.
