AI and Our Future as Dentists*

Course Description: At present, AI is already being used in dental practices. AI helps read 2-D X-rays; AI is used by insurance companies to determine whether to pay on care given; AI helps dentists design cases. The only limitation on AI is our imagination. This lecture will explore what AI really means. We will explore how AI is being used today. Finally, we will discuss how AI will affect us in the future, including in the 3-D world. Participants will have a better idea how AI will affect their future practices and when to engage with AI. Join us for an unbiased overview of what dentists need to know about the applications of artificial intelligence in dentistry.  Upon completion of the course, the participant can expect to: Learn what AI tools are currently available and the impact these tools have on clinical care and practice management. Understand the 2D and 3D diagnostic capabilities of AI. Recognize the strengths and weaknesses of AI systems.

Alan Friedel, DDS

Alan Friedel is Chief Dental Officer for VELMENI, an AI Company involved in 2D, 3d, and Virtual Reality. He was in solo practice for more than 40 years and currently teaches as part of a residency program. Richard A. Huot, DDS

Dr. Richard Huot is the founder of Beachside Dental Consultants, Inc., and started his consulting firm in 2004, and is currently serving as Chief Business Development Officer for VELMENI. Dr. Huot is a member of the ADA Standards Committee for Dental Informatics (SCDI), and he served on the Florida Dental Association Board of Trustees and as ADA Vice President from 2017 to 2019. Course Description: Healthy living can help us overcome serious health problems like heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure, and depression. Our panel of experts will show you ways to manage and reduce stress; exercises to help all dental professionals stay pain-free, and physically robust long into your career, and how to eat for happiness and longevity.

Upon completion of the course, the participant can expect to understand how nutrition, exercise and stress management can improve our physical and mental health.



Navigating the Finances of Your Dental Career for New Dentists

Course Description: This presentation will cover key financial considerations for new dentists, including compensation and related taxation with emphasis on the issue of employee v. independent contractor. And explore starting v. acquiring a dental practice and related critical points of due diligence.

 

 

Navigating the Finances of Your Dental Career for Established Dentists

Course Description: This session will look at practice ownership and tools for monitoring practice performance. And address preparing your practice for transition and current trends in the transitions market.

John joined Cataldo Financial & Consulting Group in December of 2010 after graduating from Widener University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants and provides various services to clients at Cataldo Financial and Consulting Group, including financial statement and tax preparation, practice acquisition due diligence, valuation and consulting engagements with specialization in the dental and veterinary industries. He provides seminars for universities and various dental related conferences regarding current accounting, tax and financial issues impacting dental professionals. John is an active resource for tax advice via his YouTube channel, Johnny Reliable. Outside of the office, John is the Defensive Coordinator for Central Bucks South High School football team and enjoys spending time with his family. 

 

 

 

   


 

A Full Body Scanning for Dentists' Wellness: How are we doing?

Course Description: Information about dimensions of wellness and opportunities to self-evaluate areas of your life that might need attention in a non-judgmental and safe environment. Attendees are free to share experiences with others during discussion. Materials will be provided for this presentation/interactive workshop to spark a self-exploratory journey of the different dimensions of wellness. Participants can expect to take home techniques and information to improve their wellness.

Y. Cathy Hung, DDS

Dr. Cathy Hung is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon practicing in New Jersey. She earned a DDS from Columbia University and received her oral and maxillofacial surgery training at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the Bronx, New York. Dr. Hung is a twice-published author, speaker, and certified life coach. She was an alumna of the American Dental Association’s Institute for Diversity in Leadership program and a first cohort ADA Wellness Ambassador, supported by DWAC, Council on Dental Practice. She is the current Chair of the Well-being Committee at New Jersey Dental Association and a DEI consultant for the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon’s Committee on Membership. She was the recipient of Benco Dental’s 10th Annual Lucy Hobbs Project Humanitarian Award. Dr. Hung has no relevant financial relationships to disclose.
